Description
The Story of the Wild West Through Indian Eyes Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee was first published half a century ago, but its impact is as powerful today as it was fifty years ago, when it contributed greatly to Americans confronting the cruelty of their ancestors' previously clearly glorious "conquest". The story of the Wild West, from the perspective of the Indians, tells of the increasingly insatiable settlers, the series of treaties broken by the whites, bloody battles, and the destruction of entire Indian tribes. The American government, taking advantage of the childish credulity of the natives - although it also ostensibly protected their interests - hypocritically and deceitfully robbed the natives of their natural habitats. The path of the "unstoppable progress" of the white race led through the expulsion and often massacre of the Indians from their homes. In the pages of the book, which uses official documents, the chiefs and warriors of various Indian tribes report in their own words all the actions that make it clear: the white man, who considered himself superior at the time, carried out a genocide that could not be justified in any way morally. Dee Brown (1908-2002) is an American historian and novelist. During his college years, he began working as a librarian, and he liked his job so much that after receiving his teaching and liberal arts degrees, he also completed a library program. His books and studies mostly deal with the history of the Civil War and the Wild West, and with one of their notable events. In addition to his scholarly works based on special sources, Dee Brown also wrote youth, western and historical novels. The now classic Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee was first published in 1970 and has since been translated into all major languages.
