Description
Wolfgang Borchert (1921-1947) is a significant author of German literature after the Second World War, despite the fact that his literary career ended very early due to his young death. His short stories and their tone mark the beginning of a period also referred to as the "transition", which sought to break away both thematically and poetically from the modes of expression of German literature immediately preceding the Second World War, and at the same time sought to create new foundations for the medium, workshops, and modes of communication of literature. The drama (Outside the Door) in the volume containing his collected works, as well as both the short prose works and the poems, fit into this endeavor. It is no coincidence that the writing group Gruppe 47, which was formed in the year of his death and which subsequently significantly determined the trends of German literature, considers Borchert's work as its direct predecessor, although it is not large in terms of volume, but nevertheless significant in terms of its style of expression, poetic composition and thematic nodes.
