Description
The author has lived in North America for 67 years, in Canada for 13 years, and in the United States for 54 years. Despite the years spent there, he has always maintained his attachment to Hungary and his native village, Gönyű. He consistently considers the latter to be the "center of the world". In his childhood, he gained experiences, impulses, and knowledge in his birthplace that still motivate his actions today. The focus of his memories is the warm atmosphere of the family, pleasant school experiences, and the recollection of events with his siblings and friends. Their escape to Germany during the Second World War is still vivid in his thoughts today. The ten- or eleven-year-old boy made his way on the Danube, which was full of mines and ice floes, on the board steamer MFTR1. A series of events on a historical scale and exciting twists made the journey there and back unforgettable for him. He authenticated the stories, which are readable and take place between 1935 and 1946, with photographs from family and local history collections.
